Broadsides, postcards, and bookmark. In 1969, poet Ken Mikolowski and artist Ann Mikolowski began The Alternative Press to print the works of Detroit poets and artists. In 1971 they began mailing collections of their work to subscribers. This early, unnumbered packet (the work is undated, but the envelope is postmarked 1971) contains two broadsides, two postcards, and a bookmark. One broadside, by poet George Tysh, is printed in brown ink on yellow paper. The other, printed in black ink on brown stock,untrimmed on bottom edge, is by Snee, illustrated with an etching by Ann Mikolowski. Each broadside is 8 x 12 inches. Two postcards,one printed in black on dark brown paper, with a concrete poem by BBabbi Pritchett; the other a poem "old cheese or meat" by Robert Serling, printed in black and red on gray green paper. One bookmark in red and black on white stock, with a two-line poem by Chris Fessler. All pieces are Fine. In original mailing envelope with cardboard stiffeners.
